How to Improve Sleep Naturally In 4 Simple Steps

Fun and Easy Health | Simple Steps to Better Health — Series 1
Tired of waking up tired? Here are 4 tips and tricks for a treat of deep sleep! 🌙
A good night's sleep can make a wonderful difference in how you feel the next morning. But what happens when you can't sleep?
Do you struggle to fall asleep, stay asleep, or are you a light sleeper who wakes at every little sound?
Sleep is essential for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It supports memory, metabolism, mood, immune health, and our ability to handle everyday stress.
Let's make better sleep simple, one habit at a time.

Sleepmaxxing: Can Simple Bedtime Habits Improve Deep Sleep?
You may have heard about sleepmaxxing, a popular wellness trend focused on improving sleep quality, deep sleep, and nighttime recovery.
From magnesium supplements and calming bedtime rituals to reducing blue light exposure and supporting your natural circadian rhythm, people are searching for ways to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed.
But here's the good news: Better sleep doesn't have to be complicated or expensive.
At Fun and Easy Health, we believe that simple, consistent habits are the foundation of a healthy sleep routine. Before investing in the latest sleep gadgets or supplements, let's explore four practical steps to support natural, restorative sleep.
How to Improve Sleep Naturally
Step 1: Turn Off the Screens and Get Into a Routine
Is scrolling on your phone how you wind down at night?
It may feel relaxing, but stimulating content, bright screens, and endless scrolling can keep your mind alert to the point of exhaustion, rather than real relaxation when you're trying to prepare for sleep.
Try putting your phone away 1–2 hours before bedtime.
Instead, enjoy a good book, play a game, listen to peaceful music, or spend some quiet time with your family.
If you enjoy watching television, choose something light, funny, romantic, or scenic. Save the intense action, drama, and horror for another time during the day.
Step 2: Eat Clean for a Restful Night
Could your evening eating habits be affecting your sleep?
Dinner around 6 PM can be a wonderful routine for families, especially if you go to bed around 9 or 10 PM.
The goal is to give your body enough time to digest before lying down.
Try finishing a large meal approximately 2–3 hours before bed.
For dinner, enjoy a balance of:
Protein, such as chicken, fish, eggs, or beans
Healthy fats, such as olive oil or avocado
Colorful vegetables
Ending your meal with protein and vegetables will leave you in a state of ketosis, which will give you more time to fast. Break your fast with whole grains, nuts, Greek yogurt, and protein. And here's a little trick: Save that slice of cake or ice cream for an occasional daytime treat.
Large meals, late-night drive-throughs, and rich desserts close to bedtime can contribute to digestive discomfort, especially for people prone to reflux.
What if you're hungry before bed?
Going to bed hungry isn't always helpful either.
If you need something light, consider a small banana with almonds, a few blueberries and nuts, a piece of mozzarella, or a small salad with olive oil dressing.
If you wake up hungry during the night, pay attention to whether your dinner was satisfying enough. Nighttime waking has many possible causes, but it can often be attributed to low blood sugar.
Step 3: Explore Minerals and Nutritional Support
You've probably heard about taking magnesium before bed. But what if you've already tried it and you're still not sleeping well?
Magnesium supports normal nerve and muscle function, and some people may benefit from correcting an inadequate intake.
However, different magnesium products have different formulations, and research on magnesium supplements for insomnia remains limited.
At Fun and Easy Health, I prefer carefully selected nutritional farm-to-family, organic products and helping clients understand what they're taking rather than adding supplement after supplement, especially those synthetic ingredients manufactured in large factories.
Supplements we can discuss
Aspartic Multi-Mins — A multi-mineral product to consider when reviewing overall mineral intake.
Products I would like clients to learn more about when exploring nutritional support, depending on their ingredients and individual needs. Complete MG is not currently available through our shop.
BP Renew — A magnesium glycinate supplement (my personal favorite) for a strong boost of magnesium. Great for coffee drinkers or for those depleting minerals quickly.
Complete MG — A balanced blend with three different types of magnesium. Most commonly used as a daily multi-magnesium supplement.
Anxio Balance — A supplement to help lower stress during the day and promote gentle relaxation in the evening. A great daytime addition to the previous supplements or light supplement in the evening.
Melatonin — Melatonin may help some people with sleep timing or falling asleep, particularly when their circadian rhythm is disrupted. It is not a universal solution for staying asleep throughout the night.
Before purchasing a supplement, review its ingredients, dosage, interactions, and suitability with a qualified healthcare professional. Minerals and sleep supplements can interact with medications, and more is not always better.
Not sure where to start? Let's review what you've already tried before adding something new.
Step 4: Make Bedtime Tea Your Evening Ritual
Sometimes the simplest routines are the easiest to enjoy.
One of my favorite ways to prepare for bed is to make a warm cup of calming herbal tea about an hour before bedtime.
My personal favorites include:
Chamomile tea
Sleepytime herbal tea
Seven Blossoms tea
Choose caffeine-free blends, check the ingredients for allergies or medication interactions, and drink a modest amount if nighttime bathroom trips disturb your sleep.
Do you have a favorite bedtime tea? What's your evening remedy?
Share it in the comments! Your favorite flavor might inspire someone else to create their own.
The Real Secret? Make Your Routine Easy to Follow.

How to Improve Sleep Naturally with new habits can feel challenging at first, especially when you're used to staying up late, scrolling through your phone, or eating dinner at different times.
Here's something that has helped me: Set alarms for your evening routine.
Setting alarms can support you with reminders for when to wind down, stop using the phone, and start brewing some herbal nighttime tea.
Communicating with friends, family, and roommates will also benefit by lessening the resistance when it's time to leave the event or engagement. "Hey, I am on a new strict sleep schedule, so I only have until __pm to hang out, watch TV, etc."
Let your people know:
"I'm starting a new bedtime routine because I want to improve my sleep and feel more energized in the morning."
When the people around you understand your goals, it can become easier to leave an event a little earlier, turn off the television, and make your health a priority.
Start with one change tonight, then gradually build your routine.
Here's the secret: Consistency matters.
Try waking up and going to bed around the same time each day. Getting morning sunlight can also help regulate your body's natural sleep-wake cycle. It is healthy to rise and set with the sun.
If your work schedule allows, align your routine with daylight. If you work nights or irregular hours, focus on blocking out sunlight and maintaining the most consistent schedule possible.
Still Having Trouble Sleeping?

You've tried the teas, magnesium, earlier dinners, and putting your phone away, but you're still waking up exhausted.
Sometimes better sleep requires a closer look at your daily habits, stress, nutrition, medications, or other health factors.
Other times, your work doesn't allow you to sleep consistently.
At Fun and Easy Health in Murrieta, California, I offer personalized holistic wellness sessions to help you review your routines, nutritional habits, and wellness goals.
If you regularly struggle with sleep, snore loudly, gasp during sleep, or experience significant daytime sleepiness, an evaluation is important. Sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea may require specific medical treatment, but let's see what we can apply naturally.
